Camplify launches Airbnb for Caravans and Motorhomes in the UK

One of the world’s fastest growing, and Australia’s largest, peer-to-peer caravan hire and RV-sharing community ‘Camplify’ has announced its expansion into the UK. With a soft-launch in August the company will focus on helping RV owners to list their caravans, motorhomes, campervans, trailer tents, static caravans and holiday lodges for hire on the site.

The launch period will be an opportunity for RV owners to chat with Camplify’s UK manager and caravanning industry expert Chris Laxen (formerly of Parkdean Resorts), who will run through such items as insurance, hire pricings, complimentary breakdown cover, and how to get the most out of Camplify’s unique RV sharing platform.

Laxen, who joined Camplify from the UK’s largest holiday park network, says; “The response from other industry leaders has been really positive, so watch this space. I am very excited to see where we can take Camplify in the next six months and beyond.”

Camplify was founded by Justin Hales in 2014 and launched across Australia in 2015. After just two years in operation, Camplify is on track to boast the largest rental RV fleet in Australia by the end of 2017, overtaking traditional rental businesses that have been in operation for decades. The business was recently valued at $10million Australian dollars. This impressive statistic is not dissimilar to the impact that sharing economy giant, Airbnb, has had on the accommodation industry.

The National Caravan Council (NCC) revealed earlier this year that the UK’s caravan and motorhome industry has an estimated 550,000 touring caravans, 330,000 caravan holiday homes and 225,000 motorhomes. With numbers growing quickly, RV’s are contributing more than £6 billion per annum to the UK economy and this figure is continuing to grow. The UK market will greatly benefit from the introduction of Camplify, in that it will provide holidaymakers with an affordable and fun way to discover Britain’s hidden treasures.

The relative lack of options for a purpose built, all-in-one platform for peer-to-peer RV sharing, and the unique holiday experience that this provides, was founder Justin Hales’ motivation for launching Camplify in the UK. He explains, “With so many people embracing Camplify’s RV sharing community in Australia, this move seemed a natural fit. We’re excited to be expanding into the UK marketplace, with European destinations also looking probable later on.”
