MILLENNIALS DRIVING STAYCATION BOOM

In a report conducted by the Great British Staycation, it was found that more than half of 25-34 year olds are more likely to holiday within the UK than they were last year.

Those surveyed included more than 2,000 holidaymakers and some 500 leisure business owners.

There was a particular spotlight on Scotland in the report, with the country proving to be the second most sought-after destination, beaten only by south-west England.

Nearly 70% of Scots admitted they won’t be straying far for their holiday, choosing to stay within the country than venture anywhere else in the UK.

Malcolm Roughead, chief executive of VisitScotland, said: "We're delighted that so many UK holidaymakers say they are planning a staycation in Scotland this year to explore the awe-inspiring landscapes, amazing attractions and fascinating history and heritage which can be found on their doorstep.”

Jamie Grant, Barclays Corporate Banking managing director, added: “[I]t's particularly pleasing that our study found younger people are being drawn to UK holidays. Operators will have to continue to adapt and invest in cutting edge technology to ensure that this trend persists, while at the same time finding innovative ways to appeal to all age groups wanting to enjoy the attraction of a warm Scottish welcome.
