Rockley Park in Poole unveils plans for water sports destination

A Dorset holiday park and water sports destination could be in line for redevelopment - which would include residential apartments, a restaurant and a new water sports centre with space for up to 100 boats.

After the proposed redevelopment, The Point at the Rockley Park Holiday Park in Poole, which is currently operated by Bourne Leisure under the Haven brand, would also have space for 17 static caravans.

The application's design and access statement, prepared by Lichfields, said: "Rockley Park is a holiday park situated to the west of Hamworthy, Poole. The Park is long-established, having been in this use since the late 1950s. It is an important contributor to the local tourism economy, providing a high quality tourist and leisure facility and generating a significant number of local jobs.

"Bourne Leisure has made frequent investments to improve the Park’s existing facilities and accommodation as well as upgrading the Park to meet visitor demands and expectations.

"Bourne Leisure’s ownership at Rockley extends to around 77 acres. The Park currently provides 1,126 static caravan pitches."

The plans for the 7.4-acre site at The Point represent a £23m investment to diversify the business's offering and include 46 holiday units, an extended car park, and 45,111 sq ft of extra space, enabling the business to take on an additional 45 staff.

The statement continues: "The proposed redevelopment of The Point will comprise a considerable investment by Bourne Leisure in the Park. The proposal seeks to diversify and improve the visitor accommodation offer in the area and provide an attractive beach front area with associated, high quality facilities for guests and other visitors to the area to use.

"The proposals will ensure the Park continues be attractive to its visitors and is able to meet changing visitor expectations."

The Borough of Poole will decide on the project in due course.
