Benefits of kids colouring products in the holiday park industry

Research from Travelodge shows that more Britons are choosing to holiday in the UK, and that means park operators need to work hard to ensure that they’re attracting and more importantly retaining this new business.

Guests not only expect great facilities, comfortable rooms and good quality food, but they’re also hoping that both they and their children will be kept entertained throughout their stay.

This is why your business needs to ensure that they take the time and effort to make sure children feel welcomed and are catered for, whether that’s through dedicated activities or specific children areas. These activities could be kids groups but they could also be something smaller, such as colouring sheets or activity packs.

Colouring-in not only engages young audiences but can also have a calming effect too, plus they’re really easy to provide for holiday parks and hospitality through colouring sheets and crayons. If your business doesn’t currently offer these types of products for children to use whilst there, then these are some of the reasons why you might want to consider introducing them.

How your business can use colouring activities

There are many different ways that holiday parks can entertain children both indoors and outdoors, and a lot of it can be done with the facilities that are on offer, such as a swimming pool or a park in an outdoor area.

If you want to encourage children to get outside you could introduce a map of the park, the sheet could be in black and white, ready to be coloured in by the children.

On arrival, guests could also receive a diary of the different activities that are going on during the week, with areas that children can colour on the sheet or puzzles to keep them engaged.

Another idea could be a foraging walk around the grounds of the holiday park, with a sheet for the children to fill or colour in as they find the different plants that are surrounding the area.

A teddy bear picnic with a corresponding puzzle or quiz could also keep children happy and entertained during their stay at your holiday park.

Guest surveys are a great way of gaining feedback on the park, and whilst they’re usually targeted for adults, you could also create children-aimed surveys to find out how you can constantly improve the services that you offer.

Keeko Kids, who are exhibiting at the Holiday Park Innovation Show in 2019, have a range of products designed to keep children stimulated and engaged. They currently offer products like activity packs, activity sheets, colouring-wall units, puzzle packs and crayons.  These can all be designed in a bespoke manner for your business.

Why is colouring-in a great activity for children?

Colouring is a fun activity that is proven to be beneficial in many ways for both children and adults.  It’s a great way to aid children’s imagination and to get them excited and learning about various topics.

ColorPsychology.org have listed a number of other benefits that colouring can have on a child’s psychology and development, they include:

  • Stimulating creativity

  • Helping to encourage better handwriting

  • Improving motor skills

  • Teaches colour awareness

  • Improves colour recognition

  • Encourages self-express

  • Can help to relieve stress

Why does your business need to cater to children?

According to Visit England, tourism in England generates £106 billion a year, and employs over two million people which supports thousands of businesses.

The Office for National Statistics has also revealed that in 2016, British residents spent £18.5 billion on overnight trips in England. Not only that, but in 2017 there were 15.4 million holiday visits to the UK.

It’s safe to say that the holiday and tourism industry is thriving, and it’s important that your business caters for all aspects of that market, even children.

When families holiday in the UK it could be down to a number of factors, less stress than travelling abroad with children, trying to cut back on costs etc. But one thing is certain they all want to ensure that their family has the best time whilst on their holiday, and catering for the whole family is the best way to ensure this.

Going on holiday can sometimes be stressful, but if your business can help in ways to ensure that the whole family has an enjoyable experience, then you’re likely to build a customer rapport that will keep them coming back time and time again.

You can find out more information about Keeko Kids and the products they have by visiting them at the Holiday Park Innovation Show in 2019 at the NEC Birmingham on November 6 and 7.
